Description

Basics

  • Removes lime from the water (carbonate hardness).
  • Ideal for tea and coffee lovers.
  • For the use with a Refill cartridge NF2. (To be ordered separately.)
  • Perfect in combination with activated carbon cartridges.
  • The significant advantage of this resin over calcium (total hardness) resins consists in the fact that no additional Na+ ions are emitted to the water. This is particularly important to people who have to reduce their daily salt consumption.
  • Cannot be regenerated.
  • The degree of decalcification can be selected via two bypass bores in the refill cartridge NF2: 100%, 60% or 40% reduction of the total hardness.
  • Optimal results are obtained at a flow rate of about 1 l/min. Depending on further utilised cartridges and line pressure we recommend a flow regulator 1,0 l/min.
  • Resins have a limited life period (12 months from filling date): So you should avoid excessive storage. After that date, the resin is usable as long as it's still moist.

Useful life

The yield of ion exchange resins depends on the lime content of the incoming water. The following table gives an overview of the filtration performance for a given carbonate hardness and the opened bypass bores.

Carbonate hardness in the raw water (°e) 6 13 19 25 31 38
Capacity without bypass (in L) 650 475 300 230 190 155
Capacity with 1 x bypass (in L) 950 700 450 350 300 250
Capacity with 2 x bypass (in L) 1200 900 550 400 / /

This is how it works

The water slowly flows by the ion exchange resin. Thereby the calcium and magnesium ions ( Ca2+, Mg2+) are replaced with hydrogen ions (H+). The calcium (calcium carbonate: CaCO3) has now become hydrogen carbonate = carbonic acid (H2CO3). As a function of the solubility, it decomposes to water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), the annoying lime deposition does no longer take place.

Scope of delivery

  • One pack of Lime (carbonate hardness) ion exchange resins.
